Why you should replace your air filter this winter

December 13, 2016

We stress routine maintenance on your heating and air conditioning equipment frequently, but this doesn’t only mean annual tune-ups – it also involves assessing your air filters. It’s a quick way to help keep your system working smoothly and increase your indoor air quality, and you can easily do it on your own! Now is the perfect time to examine your filter, as the cold season comes to a close and heat is nearing. There are many benefits to changing out your air filter, such as:

Extending the life and efficiency of your system
A surefire way to instigate a system interruption is a dirty air filter. Additional dirt that accumulates on your filter can force your whole system to run harder than it should to keep you cool. Not only will it hinder the performance of your system, but it can escalate your utility bills and cause your system to overheat.

Increasing indoor air quality
The goal of an air filter is that it snatches contaminants through your air system before it reaches your residence. After the filter has been in for a while, the less effective it is in catching things like dust and mold that can hurt the health and comfort of your house, especially if someone in your house suffers from allergies or asthma. With spring coming up, pollen and mold are especially expected to be hanging around and you would prefer they aren’t traveling in your house. A quality, clean air filter will help your household breathe easy and keep healthy throughout allergy season.

Inspect your system or current air filter provider for guidance on how often you should be putting in a replacement filter. For the majority of the filters through County Line Mechanical LLC, we suggest an annual change with the highest MERV filter available. Not sure if it’s the ideal time to replace your air filter?
